Allah Almighty created this Universe and especially human beings for His recognition. This journey of recognition started at the realm of Divine Unity from the Nur of Mohammad. Eventually this journey reached its completion in the man in the form of Divine Nur. However, the Universal Divine Man (al-insan al-kamil) took this journey to its ultimate level. As Divine Nur descended in him in its pure and ultimate form. According to Qudsi Hadith, Allah created man from His Nur. Then He took promise from all the souls in the Alam e LaHoot, “Am I not your Lord?” All the souls recognized Him and replied, “Indeed, You are our Lord.” In this phase of recognition all the souls were free of any veils and impurities and were seeing Allah without any veil.

Then Allah sent the human souls into the physical realm for testing their promise. This test is to differentiate the ones who fell for the attractions of this world from the ones who did not pay any heed to the unreal colors of the world. To these souls Allah Almighty is above and beyond everything to them. As they chose the Creator instead of the creation. Also, Allah tested whether person from within the veil of his physical body still recognizes Him and keeps his promise.

Source of Guidance for Mankind

Allah sent the prophets in the world so they may remind people of their promise to Allah. All the prophets preached their Umma and guided them towards the recognition of Allah. However, the chain of Prophethood ended at Prophet Mohammad sall Allahu alayhi wa’alihi wassallam. Afterwards, the guidance of mankind continued in the form of perfect Fuqara. Now there are four main spiritual orders who serve guidance to humanity. These are Qadri, Chishti, Soharwardi and Naqshbandi. Among these, Sarwari Qadri order is superior to all. About the Qadri order Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sultan Bahoo said the following:

“Know that the Qadri order is the king and the rest of the orders follow it. They are its subordinate or ruled by it. In Tareeqat every order’s guide gives excessive spiritual exercises (to disciples). However, in the perfect Qadri (Sarwari Qadri) order (the disciple) is blessed with Divine vision, presence in the Mohammadan Assembly and proximity to Allah. (Nur ul Huda Kalan)

Offshoots of Qadri Order

Sultan Bahoo talks about two offshoots of the Qadri order, which are Sarwari Qadri and Zahidi Qadri. However, he clearly considers Sarwari Qadri order the proper and real Qadri order.

Difference Between Sarwari Qadri and Zahidi Qadri

  • In Ain-ul-Faqr Sultan Bahoo explains the difference in the following words:

“The Qadri order is dominant over time and space. There are two offshoots of the Qadri way, the Zahidi Qadri and Sarwari Qadri. Sarwari Qadri is the mystic way that Holy Prophet conferred upon me. It is by his grace, every seeker whom I guided thereafter, physically or spiritually, through the medium of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and Ism-e-Mohammad, was bestowed with the presence of the holy assembly of Prophet Mohammad without any struggle of dhikr. Furthermore, Sarwari Qadri way is very beneficent and courageous. However, in other mystic ways, some seekers were burnt to death by blaze of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Some could not bear the burden of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and retreated while some apostatized and were cursed.” (Ain-ul-Faqr)

  • Sultan Bahoo in another book said the following:

Qadri order has two offshoots; Sarwari Qadri and Zahidi Qadri. Sarwari Qadri has perfect command over contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Here the seeker becomes indifferent and independent of all needs. In fact, his attention remains focused only on the Truth. Hence, gold and soil become equal for him. Contrarily, the follower of Zahidi Qadri order has to devote at least twelve years to very hard mystic struggles. His mystic exercises are hard to an extent that his stomach remains empty. After twelve years, he becomes eligible to be present before Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani and attains the status of a spiritually lost devotee, while the status of a Sarwari Qadri is that of a beloved devotee. (Kaleed-ul-Tauheed Kalan)

Sarwari Qadri Order

Let’s learn more about the Sarwari Qadri order. How did it initiate and by what names is it known in different eras?

 Sarwari Qadri order links back to Prophet Mohammad sall Allahu alayhi wa’alihi wassallam through Ali ibn Abi Talib. It is unique spiritual order which contains greatest blessing of vision of Allah and pride of Prophet Mohammad i.e. FAQR. As Prophet Mohammad said;

اَلۡفَقۡرُ فَخۡرِیۡ وَالۡفَقۡرُ مِنِّی

Meaning: Faqr is my pride and Faqr is from me.

At another instance, he (pbuh) said;

Meaning: Faqr is my pride and Faqr is from me. (Also) Faqr is the reason of my superiority over all Prophets and Messengers.

Furthermore, a Hadith says:

اَلْفَقْرُ کَنْزٌ مِنْ کَنُوْزِ اللّٰہِ تَعَالیٰ

Meaning: Faqr is one of the treasures of Allah.

Faqr is the knowledge and path of Divine vision and union. All great Companions followed Prophet Mohammad on this path and acquired Divine vision and union through him. However, in that era, this order existed without any title.

Introduction to Sarwari Qadri Saints

The Sarwari Qadri order continued in different eras with different names. Some mystics in this order acted as the revival and spread the teachings of this order to masses in a new way. From Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), the trust of Faqr transferred to Ali Ibn Abi Talib. Here we are going to discuss how this trust reached Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen by passing though other Sarwari Qadri guides.

ALI IBN ABI TALIB

 The Holy Prophet transferred Divine Trust of Faqr to Ali ibn Abi Talib so that through him it passed on to Umma. Hence, Ali is the Baab-e-Faqr i.e. ‘door to Faqr’That is why, the Holy Prophet said the following about him:

  • For whom I am the master, Ali is his master. (Tirmidhi 3713)

Sultan-ul-Arifeen (Sultan of Mystics) Sultan Bahoo rehmat-ul-Allah alayh says;

  • Ali ibn Abi Talib got Faqr from the Holy Prophet. (Ain-ul-Faqr)

Although Hazrat Fatimah attained the trust of Faqr from Prophet Mohammad and she holds the status of first Sultan-ul-Faqr. Still the Sarwari Qadri order progressed forward through Ali Ibn Abi Talib. This is because, being woman Hazrat Fatimah cannot lead the Sarwari Qadri order. As according to Sharia, one cannot take oath of allegiance on the hands of a woman.

Another aspect is that the seeker of Allah must pass through the stage of annihilation in Murshid before the stage of annihilation in Allah and His Prophet. In order to pass through that stage, one must have immense love for his Murshid. And to attain love of Murshid, it is necessary to see him. However, due to limitations of Sharia, disciples cannot gaze upon a woman. Without love for the sacred self of Murshid a disciple cannot move forward in the journey of Divine love. Hence, Holy Prophet granted the Imamate of Sarwari Qadri order to Ali ibn Abi Talib and not Fatimah.

Fatimah Bint Mohammad

Fatimah bint Mohammad got the treasure of Faqr from Prophet Mohammad and holds the status of first Sultan-ul-Faqr. She held the status of first Sultan-ul-Faqr because Allah created her sacred soul directly from Nur-e-Mohammadi Sall’Allahu    Alayhi Wa’alihi Wasallam. That is why Faqr i.e. Divine Union, Vision of Allah and presence in the Assembly of Mohammad are granted through her mediation. Despite being a woman, she traveled the most difficult stages of Faqr with great courage and firmness. Thus, her devotion and extreme Divine love elevated her to ultimate level of Oneness with Allah. Also, she attained the status of supreme lady of all Muslim women. It is promise of Holy Prophet that Allah always grants the prayer asked through her mediation. Such is the status of belovedness of Fatimah bint Mohammad in the court of Allah.

HASAN OF BASRA

Hazrat Ali karam Allah wajhul kareem passed on Trust of Faqr to Hasan of Basra who is the second Sultan-ul-Faqr. The Sufi books Siyar-ul-Auliya and Siyar-ul-Aqtab state about the oath of allegiance and spiritual succession of Hasan of Basra:

  • Hasan of Basra took oath of allegiance at the hands of Ali ibn Abi Talib. Ali granted him special cloak and turban which Holy Prophet had granted him, thus appointed him his superior spiritual successor. Also, he passed on complete knowledge of Divine secrets to Hasan hence transferred the Trust of Faqr to him. Furthermore, Ali taught him the real method of invocation of Islamic creed (Kalma Tayyab) as Prophet Mohammad had taught him. That is, through negation of everything other than Allah (nafi) and verification by heart of His Essence (Asbat). Afterwards, Hasan introduced this method in the world of Islam.

Thus, Hasan of Basra established a grand system of spiritual orders which spread through his two successors.

Five orders namely Zaidiyyah, Ayyazia, Adhmia, Hibiria and Chishtia started from Shaikh Abdul Waahid bin Zaid. While nine orders namely Ajmia, Taifuria, Karkhia, Saqtia, Junaydia, Gazronia, Tusia, Soharwardia and Firdausia originated from Shaikh Habib al-Ajmi.

TITLES OF SARWARI QADRI ORDER IN DIFFERENT ERAS

Hasan of Basra passed on the Trust of Faqr to Shaikh Habib al-Ajmi. Hence, he was the next spiritual leader of this order. For the first time this order got a title i.e. Ajmia after the name of Shaikh Habib al-Ajmi. When he transferred Divine Trust to Shaikh Maroof Karkhi, this order got the title of Karkhia. Similarly, on reaching Hazrat Sirri Saqti its title became Saqtia. Then, Shaikh Junayd of Baghdad gave it properly organized shape by the title Junaydia. Well-known Saint of Sub-continent Hazrat Ali bin Usman al-Hajveri commonly known as Data Gunj Bakhsh also belonged to Junaydia order. Afterwards, its title remained Junaydia for almost two centuries till it reached Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Even the spiritual guide of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani, Shaikh Abu Saeed Mubarak Makhzoomi belonged to Junaydia order.

AL-GHAWTH AL-AZAM SHAIKH ABDUL QADIR JILANI

Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (Ghaus ul Azam) is most eminent personality of Sarwari Qadri order after Ali ibn Abi Talib. He is the third Sultan-ul-Faqr. Shah Waliullah Dehlawi describes his grandeur in his work Hama’at, as:

  • After Ali ibn Abi Talib starts a series of Sufis and Saints. Most powerful and superior to all of them is Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. He travelled mystic path with utmost excellence through actual Awaisi way. That is why he is believed to be as powerful in his grave as he was when alive.

  When he held the throne of Divine guidance and persuasion in 521 Hijri, Muslims had not only declined politically and religiously all over the world, but their spiritual orders had weakened as well. Hence, he enlivened true Mohammadan religion through his sermons, books and spiritual training. That is why, his title is Mohiyyuddin meaning ‘the reviver of religion’. Moreover, all previous spiritual orders collected in his sacred self and he reorganized them. Thus, four spiritual orders originated from him; Qadri, Soharwardi, Chishti and Naqshbandi. Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani leads Qadri order himself. While, he appointed Shaikh Shahabuddin Soharwardi, Moinuddin Chishti and Bahauddin Naqshband as leaders of Soharwardi, Chishti and Naqshbandi orders respectively. All three got beneficence from Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Hence, Qadri order is superior to all other orders just as he is superior to all other Saints.

Shaikh Abdul Qadir passed on Trust of Faqr to his son Abdul Razzaq Jilani who is fourth Sultan-ul-Faqr.

SULTAN-UL-ARIFEEN SULTAN BAHOO

Sultan Bahoo reorganized Qadri order and named it as Sarwari Qadri order. He undoubtedly holds most superior status in this order after Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani and is fifth Sultan-ul-Faqr. Sarwari Qadri order reached Sultan Bahoo through Shaikh Abdul Rehman Jilani who belonged to progeny of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Sultan Bahoo mentioned Shaikh Abdul Qadir in all his books and considers him his spiritual guide. He entitled this order as Sarwari Qadri to highlight its relationship with the Holy Prophet and Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Basically, Sarwari means ‘leader’ and it refers to Prophet Mohammad, hence shows association with him. Whereas, Qadri means ‘all-powerful’ and it shows association with Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani.

Sultan Bahoo significantly spread Sarwari Qadri order in Indo-Pak and gave it many new dimensions according to requirements of age. Furthermore, he provided complete knowledge about this mystic way through his books. Moreover, he separated Sarwari Qadri order from other offshoot of Qadri order i.e. Zahidi Qadri. It was great landmark which distinguished Sarwari Qadri order purely as order of spirituality and mysticism. Whereas, in Zahidi Qadri order emphasis is mostly on physical devotions. Sultan Bahoo explicitly declares only the Sarwari Qadri order the proper and real Qadri order.

SUPERIORITY OF SARWARI QADRI ORDER

Sarwari Qadri order is superior to other orders. Reason being it is the only order which blesses the seeker with Divine vision and presence of Mohammadan Assembly. Furthermore, Sarwari Qadri is free from the pain of mystic struggles, forty-day seclusions, practice of holding breath and lengthy invocations. In addition to that, there are not any apparent saintly dresses or styles in this way. As, it is fed up of superficial manners like holding stick or tasbeeh (chaplet), wearing cloak and turban etc.

Moreover, specialty of this way is that Murshid Kamil takes the seeker to extreme limits on very first day by giving him Sultan-ul-Azkar (king of invocation Hoo), contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and practice of inscribing Ism-e-Allah Zaat on body (mushq murqoom-e-wajudia). While other ways do not have all these. That is why Sultan Bahoo says that initial level of Sarwari Qadri disciple is equal to the extreme level of disciples of other ways.

SARWARI QADRI ORDER AFTER SULTAN BAHOO

After Sultan Bahoo, Sarwari Qadri order continued from Sultan Sayyid Mohammad Abdullah Shah Madni Jilani. He transferred it to Sultan Pir Mohammad Abdul Ghafoor Shah Hashmi Qureshi. Then, from him the order and Trust of Faqr reached Sultan Pir Sayyid Mohammad Bahadur Ali Shah Kazmi al-Mashhadi. After him, the spiritual leader of Sarwari Qadri order was Sultan-ul-Auliya Sultan Mohammad Abdul Aziz. He passed on the Trust of Faqr to his son Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali who is the sixth Sultan-ul-Faqr. Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali transferred Trust of Faqr to the eternally chosen heir of this treasure Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman. Presently, he is the spiritual leader of Sarwari Qadri order as well as the Universal Divine Man of era. Moreover, he is the ‘Reviver of Religion’ (Mujadid-e-Deen) of this age.

‘Sultan’ is part of names of all spiritual leaders after Sultan Bahoo to show association with his order.

At the age of eight, he went to the shrine of Sultan Bahoo and got spiritual beneficence from him. There he served for forty years. His major service during this time was to write the manuscripts of Sultan Bahoo in the form of books. As he wanted to save them for future seekers of Allah. These manuscripts are even present today. Later, on the order of Sultan Bahoo he left for Shorkot. Here he took oath of allegiance at the hands of Pir Abdul Ghafoor Shah. He served his Murshid (spiritual guide) selflessly. After adorning the throne of Divine guidance, he distributed gold Ism-e-Allah Zaat to thousands of people. He also wrote beautiful poetry. Among his writings one piece of poetry is in Urdu language while the rest is in Punjabi Saraiki. He was born on 12th March 1911 (12th Rabi al-awwal 1329 Hijri) in Garh Maharaja, Jhang, Pakistan. Undoubtedly, he was a born saint. As after birth, the first thing he saw was the sacred countenance of his Murshid, Pir Bahadur Ali Shah. Since childhood his eagerness to attain Divine presence elevated everyday. He intensely loved and served his Murshid after taking his oath of allegiance. Then after adorning the throne of Divine guidance he guided masses and spread Ism-e-Allah Zaat among common people. Al-Ghawth al-Azam blessed him with the title of Sultan-ul-Auliya which means ‘the king of all Saints’.

Sultan Mohammad Abdul Aziz died on 12th April 1981 (7th Jumada ath-thani, 1401 Hijri). His devotees offered his funeral prayer on April 13th at the shrine of Sultan Bahoo. His shrine is half kilometer away from the shrine of Sultan Bahoo in Garh Maharaja, Jhang, Pakistan.

Sultan ul Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali

Sultan-ul-Faqr sixth Hazrat Sakhi Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali (may Allah bless him) was born on Friday, August 14th, 1947. He was born at dawn in the town of Samundari, Garh Maharaja, District Jhang, Pakistan. Sultan-ul-Faqr VI is the beloved son of Sultan Mohammad Abdul Aziz therefore; his genealogy goes back to Sultan Bahoo. His father said the following about him;

“Till doomsday no one will hold Faqr the way my son Mohammad Asghar Ali will.” He is Sultan-ul-Faqr VI which is also his title. Since childhood his sacred countenance was enlightened with the Divine light. As his sight was absolutely the Divine light therefore, whoever got his alchemic glance, became light himself. Furthermore, he elevated masses to the station of Divine vision and union drowning them in ocean of Divine Unity.

After transferring the Divine Trust to Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman, Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali trained him for two years. On its accomplishment, he left physical world on Friday, December 26, 2003 (Dhul al-Qadah 2, 1424 Hijri). A large crowd of his devotees offered his funeral prayer at the shrine of Sultan Bahoo. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Hazrat Sakhi Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is the 31st Shaikh of Sarwari Qadri order. He was born on Wednesday, 19th August 1959 at 4:30 am in Bakhshan Khan, Bahawalnagar District, Pakistan. Since childhood, he had the most eminent personality. Allah chose him for the treasure of Faqr since eternity. Therefore, the Divine light is radiant from his countenance since birth. Once a dervish gave the following prediction about Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen to his mother:

“Allah has chosen your son for a sacred purpose and inscribed special destiny on his forehead.”

Since childhood, Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman was anxious about knowing the reality of Islam. Hence, he kept pondering over signs of Allah and message of Prophet Mohammad. All his life he has been under the training and guidance of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Before his physical oath of allegiance, al-Ghawth al-Azam had been spiritual training him and blessed him with the presence of the Mohammadan Assembly. Here Prophet Mohammad himself took oath of allegiance from him and then assigned al-Ghawth al-Azam for his further training. After completing his training al-Ghawth al-Azam ordered him to take oath of allegiance on the hands of Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali.

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s Love for His Murshid

Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is the best living example and prodigy of Divine love. He got so absorbed in the love of his spiritual guide that he forgot his own existence. All his friendships, relations and other worldly matters lost their importance. His main concern and priority were only the comfort and happiness of his spiritual guide.

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen passed all the physical and spiritual trials in the path of Faqr. Thus, Sultan-ul-Faqr VI transferred the trust of Faqr to him on 21st March 2001.

Preview of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s Efforts in Spread of Faqr

Soon after Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen held the throne of Divine guidance, seekers of Allah started coming to him for spiritual persuasion. He granted them Ism-e-Allah Zaat for invocation (zikr/dhikr) and contemplation (tasawur). Also, he has made great efforts and taken revolutionary steps to shower the beneficence of Faqr upon the Umma. A small preview of his efforts in the spread of Faqr is as follows:

  • First and foremost favour of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen upon seekers of Allah is the invocation (zikr) itself. As Ism-e-Allah Zaat helps the seeker in the recognition of Murshid Kamil Akmal and takes him in proximity to Allah.
  • Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is the first ever spiritual guide in history of Faqr who has made the beneficence of Ism-e-Mohammad
  • He does not involve his disciples in exhaustive exercises such as lengthy prayers, recitals, seclusions etc. Rather, he purifies their souls and innerselves through his powerful attention.
  • He also showers light of Divine knowledge and Faqr upon seekers through his books and monthly magazine Sultan-ul-Faqr Lahore.
  • Furthermore, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen laid the foundation of Tehreek Dawat-e-Faqr, so as to spread the message of Faqrin more organized manner.

Tehreek Dawat-e-Faqr

Tehreek Dawat-e-Faqr under the supervision of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is working day and night to spread Faqr. It has following departments:
