In religion Islam the level of supremacy depends upon piety. Piety means Divine closeness and union with Allah. Moreover, this inner state is impossible without accompanying a spiritual guide (Murshid). Those who assert the love of Allah and His beloved Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and longing to seek purity of innerself, purgation of heart and disclosure of core of the soul for the sake of Divine vision. Hence, it is obligatory for them to find a perfect spiritual guide and pledge allegiance to him.
Spiritual Guide (Murshid) Is Must On Divine Path (Faqr)
The history speaks of the truth that from the emergence of Islam, all the Divine seekers have been advised to seek a perfect spiritual guide (murshid) to get beneficence. Because the path that has no guide surely does not has destination.
Allah says about the spiritual guide (murshid) in the Quran:
یٰۤاَیُّہَا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللّٰہَ وَ ابۡتَغُوۡۤا اِلَیۡہِ الۡوَسِیۡلَۃَ﴿۳۵﴾
Meaning: O believers! Fear Allah persistently and keep looking for means to (approach and get closer to) Him. [Al-Maidah:35]
Faith and Spiritual Guide (Murshid) are Inseparable
The Holy Prophet says:
لَا دِیْنَ لِمَن لَّا شَیْخَ لَہٗ
Meaning: One who does not have a spiritual guide (murshid) has no faith.
Ghawth al-Azam’s Advice to Divine Seekers
Ghawth al-Azam said:
- It is obligatory on a person to vivify his soul in this material world before physical death. Moreover, it is accomplished from the man of Divine persuasion (the perfect spiritual guide) because in hereafter one reaps what he has sowed in the world and if a person does not sow anything then what will he reap in the hereafter? This sowing means performing spiritually good deeds for the betterment of outward and inward existence of a person. (Sir’r al-Asrar, Section 8)
Journey of Soul to Beloved Is The Best Journey
Prophet Mohammad says:
- The best desire is the desire of Allah.
Therefore, the best way is the path of Divine closeness and union. But this journey is impossible to complete without a perfect spiritual guide (murshid). According to the teachings of Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sultan Bahu, a person cannot attain Divine closeness and union even if the whole life he remains in prostration. Divine union and closeness is possible through the beneficence of spiritual guidance and company of a perfect spiritual guide (murshid). When a disciple sincerely seeks Allah and toils hard for it, Allah must show His way i.e. Faqr and He will surely bring him to the company of perfect spiritual guide (murshid) of his era.
One Gets For Which One Strives
Allah says in the Holy Quran:
وَ اَنۡ لَّیۡسَ لِلۡاِنۡسَانِ اِلَّا مَا سَعٰی ﴿ۙ۳۹﴾
Meaning: And that man (according to justice) will get only that for which he strives. [Al-Najm: 39]
A person who strives for this world, he will get the benefit of this material world only. Similarly, a person who desires paradise, he will get nothing more than paradise. But the matter of Divine lovers is different. This world is just a test for them, they have nothing to do with this world and the things in it. They are only concerned with the Divine closeness and vision. So for them is a different route i.e. Faqr and a different destination.
Everyone’s Wine Will Be Up to the Size of his Cup
Allama Iqbal says:
Explanation: This world is a tavern and everybody is invited to drink (taste the wine of Divine vision). Everyone’s wine will be up to the size of his cup (according to his desire to seek Allah).
It is now up to the disciple whether he loses his spiritual guide (murshid) due to his lust for world or gain Divine blessings through him.
How Can a Disciple Achieve Divine Closeness?
At this stage question arises, how can a disciple who has reached in the company of perfect spiritual guide (murshid), attain Divine closeness and union?
The spiritual diseases are veil between Allah and His slave. The esoteric innerself can only be purified by the efficacy of spiritual sight of perfect spiritual guide (murshid). Moreover, the spiritual guide (murshid) purifies innerself of his disciples in the same way as a laundryman washes clothes so that he can remove the trashes of spiritual diseases. If a disciple, sincerely and steadily, submits himself, his inner baser self gets purified. Resultantly, he is elevated to the level of an-nafs al-mutmainnah (innerself at peace).
Perfect Spiritual Guide (murshid) Is Like A Laundryman
Sultan Bahoo says:
Explanation: The perfect spiritual guide (murshid) should be like a laundryman, for he does not let even the faintest stain stick to clothes and makes dirty white. Likewise, instead of involving in forty days seclusion or unnecessary endeavours and struggles, the guide shows the path of Ism-e-Allah Zaat along with casting spiritual glance which purifies the inciting innerself (an-nafs al-ammarah) and removes the diseases of soul and inward.
Moreover, his marvel lies in the fact that he eradicates the love of the world from one’s inward and removes vicious desires of inciting innerself and world. Thus, he drowns a seeker in Divine Oneness. Furthermore, a worthy seeker is one who is manifestation of his spiritual guide (murshid) and a worthy guide has the power to make it possible.
Trials In The Way Of Allah (Faqr) Are Tests Of Divine Love
After purification of innerself and basic spiritual training, the murshid testifies the claims of his disciple. Whether his claims of Divine love are based on truth or these were just altercation. Moreover, every disciple is tested on the basis of piety and his level of sacrifice on Divine path will be accordingly. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman says:
- The way of Divine love (Ishq) distinguishes the genuine from the fraudulent ones.
Perfect Submission To Spiritual Guide (murshid) Is A Key To Success
Are those working hard to seek Divine closeness and those who are doing nothing, can be equal?
All those disciples who are working hard day and night in all these departments for the sake of Divine union and closeness, ignoring their own selves and their families, are no doubt have distinct status in the eyes of their spiritual guide and in the holy court of Allah Almighty.
Objections Create Distance
If one loves someone than he loves his beloved’s every single act. He does not object at anything his beloved does or says. Then what is the status of a disciple’s Divine love that he objects at the decisions of his spiritual guide (murshid) who is vicegerent of Allah Almighty. Raising objections at the decisions of spiritual guide (murshid) is the habit of Satan. Spiritual guide (murshid) is the manifestation of Allah. What he knows, a disciple cannot know unless his spiritual guide (murshid) allows. A Divine seeker is like sunflower, who always keeps an eye at the will of his spiritual guide (murshid) and turns accordingly. He perfectly follows his spiritual guide and does not allow objection to sprout into his heart.
Ali ibn Abi Talib
Ali ibn Abi Talib says:
- Those who object are like house-fly that leaves the whole beautiful body and sits on the wound.
The fact is, one who raises objections on spiritual guide (murshid), his family and his disciples, the deficit is actually within him. Similarly, Sultan Bahoo also advising the same in his Punjabi quatrain. He says if a disciple wants to attain his goal i.e. Annihilation in Allah and Immortality with Allah, he should follow the footsteps of perfect spiritual guide (murshid). It means that the Divine seeker should keep in mind the will of his spiritual guide (murshid); serve him consistently and sincerely. Thus, raising objection on what his spiritual guide (murshid) said or did is far-fetched. Do not even think anything wrong. Only that disciple will be successful who always remains busy in the duties of perfect spiritual guide (murshid). And whose sole purpose of life is the happiness and satisfaction of his spiritual guide (murshid).
Prophet Mohammad – The Perfect Role Model
The sacred life of Holy Prophet is the perfect example for us to follow. On the night of Miraj, Allah presented both the worlds to him but he did not look up at anything. The only thing he asked Allah was His vision, closeness and union. So, a Divine seeker who loves and follows sunna, always keeps an eye on his spiritual guide (murshid). He dedicates his each single moment of life to his spiritual guide (murshid). And for Divine oneness, he esoterically sacrifices his life, wealth and children even.
Perfect Spiritual Guide (murshid) – Sultan ul Ashiqeen
As a Divine seeker, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman also followed the advice of Sultan Bahoo whole heartedly. Ultimately, he got the status of Annihilation in Allah and also became the superior spiritual successor of his beloved Murshid.
Compliment Of Sultan-ul-Faqr VI
Sultan-ul-Faqr VI, Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali says about him:
“Our dear Najib-ur-Rehman has become the reflection of the saying:
سرِ تسلیم خم ہے جو مزاجِ یار میں آئے
Meaning: I have no will of my own, I am pleased at my beloved’s will.”(The Spiritual Guides of Sarwari Qadri Order)
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is the perfect manifestation of sunna as well as the teachings of Sultan Bahoo.
No doubt, no one is in comparison with the Divine beauty and marvels of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen.
The deeper the well, the warmer the water
There is a famous saying:
جتنا گڑ ڈالو گے اتنا میٹھا ہوگا۔
Meaning: The deeper the well, the warmer the water.
Similarly, the more effort one puts to gain Divine closeness and strives to achieve it, the more closeness one will attain. It is evident from the history that all Mystic Fakirs and Saints attained their spiritual status only through the duties assigned to them by their spiritual guides. On the other hand, one whose spiritual guide (murshid) offended with him, he will be ruined in both the worlds.
Tehreek Dawat-e-Faqr invites all the Divine seekers and the Muslim umma to gain Divine oneness under the guidance of Universal Divine Man, Shabeeh-e-Ghous-e-Azam Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman. I believe that whoever remains in his company with a pure intention surely gains Divine oneness.
May Allah bless us all with steadfastness and Divine closeness under the servitude of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen, the perfect Fakir of present era. Amen
